Corporate Osteopathic Treatment at Martin Davies & Associates Ltd Musculoskeletal injuries such as back, muscle pain and repetitive strain injury (RSI) are the main causes of sickness absenteeism. Back pain alone results in 120 million days' absence each year costing British Industry over £6 billion in lost production, with almost 75% of this due to time lost from work. 30% of employers' accident litigation cases are associated with back pain. Most of your referred employees complete their treatment courses within 5 sessions. Of these referrals, most will remain at work whilst undergoing treatment, taking no sick leave. This contrasts with the traditional route of dealing with musculoskeletal injury through GP prescription and sick note, which often results in costly long term absenteeism. Most of the Osteopathic treatments provided Martin Davies & Associates are covered by Insurance Companies, so your treatment needn't cost you or your employees a penny! How can Martin Davies & Associates help you? We give your employees access to physical treatment within 48 hours of a reported injury. Musculoskeletal Injuries Cost your Business money A study has found that 100 million European workers suffer from chronic musculoskeletal disorders (MSD), with as many as 40% of affected workers having to give up their jobs. The study found that early detection and treatment reduces the burden on government budgets and improves the lives of European citizens. The Fit for Work study by UK-based The Work Foundation estimated that MSDs cost the European Union countries 0.5% to 2% of GDP annually, which means up to £240 billion. "MSDs clearly have a serious, negative impact on the EU workforce, as they were responsible for millions of lost working days - 9.5 million were lost in one year in the UK alone," said Stephen Bevan, managing director of The Work Foundation. "As Europe now struggles to emerge from the global recession, one consideration policy-makers should address is how labour productivity in businesses is being undermined by these often very painful conditions." The report recommends a new method to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of treating illness in general, and MSDs in particular; one that considers more than simply the up-front costs of medical expenditure and incorporates wider considerations, such as work productivity. As a result of the study, a Fit for Work campaign has been launched in the European Parliament in Brussels by two MEPs from Portugal and Bulgaria. The campaign has been endorsed by the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. TUC general secretary Brendan Barber, quoted in the General Osteopathic Council's The Osteopath magazine, said; "This report highlights what trade unions have been demanding for many years, which is access to early rehabilitation for those with muscle and back problems." www.fitforworkeurope.eu
